Microsoft Advances Windows 11 with 24H2 Update, Integrates More AI Features

Microsoft will be rolling out the next major update for Windows 11, code-named 24H2. According to sources familiar with Microsoft's plans, the Windows 11 24H2 update aims to further elevate the operating system with additional artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities and other enhancements.

Microsoft's Next Move: Advancing Windows 11 with 24H2 Update

As reported last week, Microsoft has started technical testing of Windows 11 24H2 with its Windows Insiders program to help shape the update before its broader consumer release later this year (Microsoft starts testing Windows 11 24H2 as this year’s big update takes shape). Microsoft revealed last year that it had no plans for a Windows 12 release, instead committing to a yearly update model for Windows 11 that delivers significant new features to users (Microsoft reveals next evolution of Windows - and it won't be Windows 12).

Based on details from Microsoft's testing, the Windows 11 24H2 update appears focused on integrating more AI features directly into the operating system. Some new AI capabilities that may debut include improved voice commands for querying the OS, smarter filtering of notifications and emails using machine learning algorithms, and enhanced organization and search features leveraging AI technologies.

By further infusing Windows 11 with AI, Microsoft aims to create an OS experience that becomes more intuitive, helpful and tailored for each user over time. As individuals interact with their PC using voice, typing or touch, Windows can analyze these inputs and patterns of behavior to surface the right information or suggested actions proactively without needing extensive manual configuration.

In addition to AI integrations, the Windows 11 24H2 update is expected to introduce a redesigned taskbar that allows for greater visibility of application windows. Users will be able to see more of their open program icons stacked vertically on the taskbar instead of text labels alone. The update may also include streamlined options for connecting to external displays, virtual desks, and improved settings for multitasking features.

As with previous feature updates, Microsoft will be rolling out the Windows 11 24H2 update gradually. It will first be available to Windows Insiders in the Release Preview Channel, where users can test pre-release builds and provide feedback before the software sees broad availability. Assuming no major issues arise during testing and validation, Microsoft then plans to make the 24H2 update generally available towards the latter half of 2022 (Microsoft starts testing Windows 11 24H2 as this year’s big update takes shape).

By seamlessly blending artificial intelligence into Windows 11, Microsoft aims to further elevate the user experience on PCs. The 24H2 update signifies Microsoft's ongoing commitment to continuously enhancing its operating system over time with thoughtful, innovative features. As AI becomes more deeply integrated into all facets of technology, expect to see Microsoft push the boundaries of natural human-computer interactions through Windows even more in the future. Stay tuned for additional details on the new capabilities and changes coming in the Windows 11 24H2 update later this year as its development and testing continues behind-the-scenes.
